What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a psychotherapeutic service, and a form of expressive therapy, which provides a safe therapeutic environment and the opportunity to participate in creative, non-verbal expression through the use of art materials. The creative process in art therapy can be used with all ages, and in many settings. Art Therapy can be used as a valuable tool in determining a child’s emotional state, developmental level, and social functioning.

Combining child-centered counseling with the healing power of art therapy to help children express emotions, build resilience, and grow with confidence.  The art and sensory worlds speak naturally to children as a vehicle for communication.

Welcome to Art Talks LLC, where I do my best to ensure that children and teens feel safe, seen, and supported. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC NJ #37PC00507300), Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT NJ # 16LP00012800), Registered and Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC #10-180), Approved Clinical Supervisor, and Art Therapy Certified Supervisor. 

I’ve dedicated 20 years of training and clinical experience specializing in supporting children of all abilities, including specializing in early childhood, neurodivergent populations, and persons with physical disabilities. Through my work at Art Talks, as well as in various mental health settings, therapeutic centers, and schools, I know and believe that every child deserves a space where they can explore, create, and heal at their own pace. I work closely with families to understand each child’s emotional, social, and developmental needs to make therapy a safe and encouraging experience.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of service.

What does out-of-network mean?

As an out-of-network provider in New Jersey, you are responsible for the full session fee at the time of service. Your insurance plan may offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services.

Can I receive reimbursement from my insurance?

Many New Jersey insurance plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt that typically includes provider credentials, service codes, diagnosis (when applicable), dates of service, and fees. It is used by insurance companies to process out-of-network reimbursement requests.

What are your fees?

Fees vary based on service type and session length. Current rates are discussed prior to scheduling and outlined in informed consent documents, in accordance with New Jersey licensing standards.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA cards.

Do you offer sliding scale fees?

A limited number of sliding scale openings may be available based on financial need and clinician availability.

Do you provide diagnoses?

A diagnosis is provided only when clinically appropriate or required for insurance reimbursement. Diagnoses are discussed collaboratively with parents or guardians.

What is your cancellation policy?

New Jersey regulations require clear notice of cancellation policies. I request 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged the full session fee.
